Inspired by Lynda's son John and his friends, Share the Voice was founded to make sure no parent has to fight for the joy of a bike ride.
Upon learning that adaptive tricycles and other mobility equipment are no longer normally covered by private insurance — coded as "recreational" rather than "medically necessary" — Lynda and her friends felt these fun, therapeutic pieces should not be something parents have to fight for when they already fight for so much. When you see the children's faces light up, it's reason enough.
A college friend of Lynda's put the first fundraiser into motion and raised enough to complete the New York State and IRS paperwork. The first local tricycle fundraiser was held at Governor's Comedy Club, and the first trike was given away in June 2013 as Katie's birthday surprise. In July 2013, Share the Voice was officially registered and approved as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
In 2018, Share the Voice launched the "Crossing the Bridges" campaign, expanding to serve Staten Island and New Jersey beginning in 2019. Today the organization serves children across Nassau, Suffolk, Middlesex, Monmouth, Union, and Somerset counties.
To make a positive difference in the lives of disabled children through recreation, and to provide a physically active outlet — increasing social skills and self-esteem in a home and neighborhood environment through the use of mobility equipment.
Therapeutic recreation and a healthy lifestyle are key components in every child's life. Through this rite of passage, we aim to enhance the lives of families who would not otherwise be able to obtain this equipment.
Every trike is custom-built for one child's specific abilities, given completely free, and delivered with a community celebration in that child's honor.
Children who need extra trunk support, balance support, or harnesses can't use a store-bought bike. Adaptive trikes provide back support for upright posture, seat belts for safety, foot sandals with straps to keep feet neutral while pedaling, and reciprocal motion that elongates hamstrings and heelcords — all while a kid just gets to be a kid.
Our program serves children with physical and/or cognitive disabilities — including neurogenetic disorders, traumatic injuries, severe birth defects, and metabolic diseases — who require an adaptive tricycle rather than a typical bicycle. Long Island's bike trails, boardwalks, and parks become theirs to explore.
Our board brings experience from education, healthcare, business, and community work — but most importantly, they bring heart.

The online application cannot be saved for later — you'll need to start over if you don't have everything ready. Gather the following first:
If your granted trike is in good condition but your child outgrew it, can no longer benefit, or needs a different trike or accessories — we'll happily take it back.
Brand-new condition trikes go to a matching applicant on the waitlist. Good-condition trikes are donated to organizations like Ronald McDonald House, Angela's House, pediatric hospital wings, long-term care facilities, and camps for disabled individuals.
Donate your trike back and you can re-apply for a new grant and rejoin the waitlist. You keep riding — and other kids get to ride too. It's a WIN-WIN!
One per customer unless tri-"cycling": previous recipients who don't donate their trike back can't be approved for a second grant.

Little Voices gets typically developing children involved in helping their disabled peers enjoy the same childhood experiences they do. The program provides priceless life lessons and moral skills to young school-aged children — fostering knowledge of diversity and acceptance, and promoting anti-bullying behavior.
